Emmanuel-Joseph LAURET (French, 1809 - 1882)
Emmanuel-Joseph LAURET called LAURET, born in Pignans on May 31, 1809 and died in Toulon on June 10, 1882 is a French painter. Emmanuel-Joseph LAURET was first a student of Louis-Mathurin Clérian at the Aix-en-Provence School of Fine Arts; he went to Toulon where he specialized in portrait painting. He stayed in Pignans where he painted in 1835 the Conversion of Saint Paul for the church of this municipality. He traveled to Brittany, and exhibited for the first time at the salon in Paris in 1841. In 1849, he went to Algiers. He carries out portraits and subjects of orientalist inspiration. He went to Spain where he made some portraits and then returned to France where he died in Toulon on June 10, 1882.
