René STEVENS (Belgian, 1858 - 1937)
René Stevens, born in Ixelles on 25 April 1858 and died in Ixelles on 3 October 1937, is a Belgian painter, whose favorite subject was the forest, also known for portraits.
Co-founder of the Friends of the Soignes Forest in 1909, he was a member of : The Royal Commission on Monuments and Sites ; The Committee and the Board of Directors of the Belgian League for the Protection of Birds ; The Honorary Committee of the Blue Cross of Youth ; The Patronage Committee of the Friends of Fagne.
He worked for the Sonian Forest to gain the status of a protected site (obtained in 1959, 22 years after his death).
He died at Ixelles on October 3rd, 1937.
He lived for a long time on avenue Pierre Devis n ° 7.
Auderghem devoted a street to him during his lifetime.
