Gerhard VON KÜGELGEN (German, 1772 - 1820)

Gerhard VON KÜGELGEN, born February 6, 1772 in Bacharach and died March 27, 1820 in Loschwitz, was a germanian painter, noted for his portraits and history paintings. He was a professor at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts and a member of both the Prussian and Russian Imperial Academies of Arts. He was murdered by a thief in 1820, while leaving his Loschwitz workshop to go to Dresden. His twin brother Karl von Kügelgen was also a painter.
