Gorringe's department store (British, 1858-1960s)

Founder was Frederick Gorringe (1831-1909) was silk mercer and draper. In 1858 he opened small drapery shop in Buckingham Palace Road, which soon became popular with the nobility and gentry. His business prospered and by 1869 occupied three shop premises. A large department store eventually replaced the little drapery and he became a well known and fashionable west-end store. By 1818 the clothes offered were for upperclass children for both boys and girls at the age between 6 and 7 years. The company survived into the 1960s.
