Department store in Bordeaux in rue Saint-James founded by father of François Mauriac (1985–1970), 1952 The Nobel Prize winner in Literature. Father died when François Mauriac was 2 years old. «Grand magasin de nouveautés », Au magot („Department store of novelties", Au magot). It sold tailored suits, clothing, inventions recent at the time, and upholstery. Under the Second Empire, the store was a symbol of elegance.
