Maurice Frings & Cie (French, 1841 - 1927)
Cotton twisting entreprise, founded in 1841, by Louis VIARMÉ (1820-1895), founder of the House and of the L.V brand, set up a sewing thread workshop, rue de Montmorency, in Paris. He started with wholesale haberdashery from Orléans, Messieurs ROSSIGNOL. He attempted an association with Mr DELFOSSE, whose son would later be employed by CARTIER-BRESSON, but that did not last and he therefore decided in 1841 to create his own company under the name of L. VIARMÉ. Married to Mlle. GALLOT, he had 2 daughters: Léontine (1846) wife of Auguste MASSE, sales manager of the company, and Marie (1855) wife of Maurice FRINGS, Louis VIARMÉ partner with Mrs MASSE.
In 1861, the development of his business led him to buy land in rue de Vitruve, where he created a new installation, which would become an important sewing thread factory. In 1877 the company name became: "L.VIARMÉ.FRINGS & Cie". Maurice FRINGS had started in 1867 in the silk house MARCILHACY ARBELOT, then in an American firm TUCKER & Co, then Mexican GAVOTTY until the war of 1870. In 1874 he was in England for the NILE Frères et established in London as a manufacturing agent until December 1876.
In 1890 Edmond MASSE, grandson of Louis VIARMÉ, joined the company to take charge of exporting. He will notably develop South America export.
In 1900 the Company name became "Maurice FRINGS & Cie", and in 1906 the company bought the PLESSIER Frères house, successor of MICHELEZ Fils and PLESSIER, previously M.F.A. (MICHELET Fils Ainé, founded in 1808). In 1910, Maurice FRINGS was made Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. In August 1914, Lucien FRINGS, his eldest son, was killed in the war. In August 1919, merger with the company THIRIEZ (JTPF). Maurice FRINGS, Edmond MASSE and Pierre LEFEBVRE become partners of the THIRIEZ house. FRINGS brought to THIRIEZ, with the L.V. and M.F.A., haberdashery and ladies' articles that THIRIEZ did not do. In 1927 dissolution of the FRINGS company.
