Georges-Louis ROUGIER (French, 1883 - 1974)
Georges-Louis ROUGIER, a painter from Aubusson, was very involved in tapestry, especially in the interwar period. Friend of François Henri FAUREAU. Today his work is first known for the tapestries he designed for the Caisse d'Épargne d'Aubusson. The presentation, in a chapel of the castle church, is explicit about his way of working. ROUGIER painted until the end of his life, in his studio in the heart of Aubusson. His work from the 1930s shed light on the renovation movement that was emerging in Aubusson. He also won the Grand Prix at the Brussels Exhibition in 1935 for his furniture.
