Maison la Gerbe d'Or (French 1797 - 1992)
Maison la Gerbe d'Or is a French company specializing in the production of jewelry and watches and then in the retail trade of watches and jewelry. It experienced its golden age from the end of the 19th century until the middle of the 20th century. The brand is also known under the name: Gerbe d'Or, A la Gerbe d'Or or Maison de la Gerbe d'Or.
Founded in 1797, at 10 quai Pelletier (actually Quai de Gesvres) in Paris, Maison la Gerbe d'Or is one of those great 19th century goldsmith's houses, which came into being by buying back the funds of small artisans and historic family businesses. These houses had a store in Paris, often in the Marais, with a workshop on the outskirts of Paris. Maison la Gerbe d'Or will provide the social elite and particularly the bourgeoisie class during half of the 19th century. Famous from the 1830s, the company will know its golden age at the end of the 19th century, when the brand was administered by Joseph Auguste DEFIS (1853-1890), until the eve of the Second World War, where it is administered by the CHAPUS family (first Henri Auguste CHAPUS (1876-1956), then his widow Clotilde CHAVETON (1881-1968) and his son Albert Henri (1905-1987)).
