Verlag Julius Hoffmann (German, founded in 1862)
Verlag Julius Hoffmann is a German publishing house based in Stuttgart and founded by Julius HOFFMANN.
Julius HOFFMANN (1833-1904) was the son of Carl HOFFMANN (1802-1883), a German publisher, printer and bookseller and grandson of Friedrich HOFFMANN (1771-1833), chief surgeon in Bernburg.
Friedrich HOFFMANN (1771-1833) and his wife Johanna (1775-1827) had fourteen children, six of whom were dedicated to publishing: Franz (1814–1882) bookseller, youth and folk writer, editor-in-chief of the magazine Jugendfreund; Maria, married to Carl August SCHMIDT (1816–1881), founder of the Hoffmann children's publications and founder of the Schmidt and Spring publishing house in Stuttgart; Carolina, married to Julius WEISE (1804–1882) bookseller and publisher in Stuttgart, owner of Julius Weise's Hofbuchhandlung and Carl HOFFMANN (1802-1883) publisher, printer, bookseller and father of Julius Hoffmann.
Julius HOFFMANN (1833–1904) acquired the K. Thienemanns Verlag publishing house (founded in 1849) in 1862 and sold it in 1885 to his cousins Anton (1856–1915) and Franz (1850 - c. 1920) HOFFMANN. He then founded the Julius Hoffmann publishing house in 1862 and at the same time became the director of the publishing house of his father Carl Hoffmann in 1873. His son, Julius HOFFMANN junior (1864–1932) took over from the Verlag Julius house. Hoffmann in Suttgart.
