Gazette du bon ton (French 1912 - 1925)

The "Gazette du Bon Ton" is a luxury fashion magazine published in France by Émile LEVY, Central Library of Fine Arts, from 1912 to 1925 with a interuption from 1915 to 1920. 69 issues printed each around 2000 copies. The complete collection includes 573 painted stencils and 148 sketches. Founded by Lucien VOGEL, the publication was inspired of the idea of Paul POIRET to publish albums of illustrations. The magazine mainly consists of articles and fashion illustrations reflected the latest developments in fashion, lifestyle and beauty during a period of revolutionary change in art and society. Interrupted during the War (only published in the middle of the year in 1915) it will resume in 1920, before being sold by Vogel to Condé Montrose Nast in 1921. The management is then entrusted to Jean LABUSQUIERE and the Parisian headquarters are set up. at 222 rue de Rivoli. The magazine will appear until 1925. This journal will have a short and irregular existence, a small circulation, but a considerable influence.
