Alfred MARTIN (Belgian, Liège 1888 - 1950 Stavelot)
Alfred MARTIN is a Belgian artist born in Liège in 1888 and died in Stavelot in 1950. He was a painter, illustrator, woodcutter and poster designer. He followed evening courses at the Académie de Liège led by Adrien De WITTE and Émile BERCHMANS. Also received advice and support from Auguste DONNAY and Armand RASSENFOSSE.
During trips to Spain, Italy and the Netherlands, he perfected his technique of landscape painting. Made, among other things, Ardennes landscapes, genre scenes, portraits, figures, nudes. Over the years, his design has become more sober, synthesized.
From 1913 was a member of the Cercle des Beaux-Arts de Liège, from 1922 at the Cercle Artistique et Littéraire in Ghent, from 1946 at the Kring Kunst en Kennis in Ghent. In 1926 and 1923, he painted triptychs for the Saint-Denis church in Liège and for the Chèvremont basilica.
Illustrated, among other things, many folkloric works. Exhibited at the Cercle des Beaux-Arts de Liège from 1913 to 1950.
