FRIED FRÈRES (French, founded 1886)
Fried Frères is a French fashion accessory house, supplier of pearls, rhinestones, sequins and buttons, but also a designer and manufacturer of costume jewelry for retailers, and rhinestone jewelry for the entertainment world. Founded in 1886 in Paris, rue du Caire, by two Austrian brothers, Gustave and Otto FRIED, passionated about Parisian fashion and the creativity of the Bohemian glass makers.
In 1918, they open a subsidiary company in Gablonz (Jablonec nad Nisou in Czech Republic, known for its glass and jewelry production). At this time, their sons Lucien, Jean and Pierre also joined the family business, and started creating fantasy jewellery, and the production of molten and pearly glass beads for Parisian department stores and haute couture houses and designers.
After the World War II, the company continues to thrive and grow. The product range expands to beads, wooden buttons, pearl, galalite and the business scope is expanding. The materials used are plexiglas and nylon, polystyrene, ambrolite and new materials from around the world. In the 1950s and 1960s, the company invents new shapes and launches new crystal iridescent beads, and signs a contract with a large New York department store, providing them with beaded flowers and home decor.
In 2016, Fried Frères designs the crown for Miss France contest with the approval of Jean Paul GAULTIER.
