Jane BLANCHOT (French, Paris 1884 - 1979)

Léontine Jeanne BLANCHOT, known in the fashion world as Jane BLANCHOT, born May 16, 1884 in Paris and died March 23, 1979 in Paris, is a French seamstress and sculptor. She first carried out her activity at 24 rue du Quatre-Septembre then from 1923 at 11 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré. She was president of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Mode (and it is in this capacity that she asked the President of the Paris City Council to stop the ban on wearing hats in subsidized theaters lifted) and the Syndicat de la Mode de Paris. She started to sculpt from 1912, under the guidance of young teachers such as Alexandre DESCATOIRE or Jean-René CARRIERE. She exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1928 to 1939, where she received an honorable mention in 1934 and a bronze medal in 1936.
