House of Karl Lagerfeld (French, founded 1984)
Known throughout the world for his collaborations with the prestigious fashion houses Chloé, Fendi and especially Chanel, Karl LAGERFELD launched a brand in his name in 1984 on the Champs-Elysées. The brand faced some difficulties in the 90s and briefly ceased its activities. In 1998, he decided to return with a new brand, "Lagerfeld Gallery" distributed in the eponymous boutique, in Saint Germain des Prés, a district that is dear to him. More than a store, the "Gallery" exhibits the designer's photos and numerous books.
In 2000, two years after his return, Karl LAGERFELD presented his first Lagerfeld Gallery fashion show for women. Karl LAGERFELD sold his company and its brands to the American group Tommy Hilfiger in 2004, while retaining his position as artistic director.
The house changed its name in 2006 to become simply "Karl Lagerfeld". For the 2006 season, Karl LAGERFELD organized his label's fashion show at the end of New York fashion week. Always at the forefront of trends, Karl LAGERFELD decided to make his show accessible by podcast on iTunes just a few hours after his presentation. To mark his return to Paris the following season, Karl LAGERFELD chose to present his fashion show at the Sorbonne in Paris.
In 2007, Karl LAGERFELD launched the K line for men and women, a casual and more affordable line. Karl LAGERFELD presented the first fashion show of the K line at the Bread&Butter show in Barcelona in January 2007.
In 2008, he collaborated with Marchon Eyewear for a collection of optical and solar glasses and announced the creation of a line of leather goods.
