Exquisite (British, 1914-1979)

‘Exquisite’ was a brand name used by a company called ‘W A P Watson’. The history of British jewellery company “Exquisite” began in 1914 in the city of Solihull. It was founded by engraver Augustus Harry Power (1878 -1952) and Clarence Oswald Flint (1880 – 1946) when the two men bought the business from a jeweler Walter Archibald Parker Watson (1880 – 1952). In addition to "Exquisite" the company owned several other trademarks including Mirella and Myths and Magic. Exquisite jewelry became especially popular after the Second World War. Their signature designs were botanical pieces hand finished and hand painted with cold enamel. One of the most popular and well known are their "Birthday Brooches – Flower" and "Leaf" series. In addition to jewelry, the company produced sterling silver souvenirs and charms for tourist visiting the UK. For instance, one of the most well known Exquisite's souvenir brooches is Scottish Thistles with Lucky White Heather design. This design was retailed through Exquisite's outlet on Hope Street, Glasgow and marketed throughout Scotland in the 1960's and 1970's. "Exquisite" jewellery was produced until the end of the 1970s. Exquisite jewellery is rare and highly collectible today.
