Goebel - Bieber (Austrian, 1937 - 1991)
In 1937, Kurt GOEBEL and his wife, Erna BIEBER, opened the Goebel - Bieber company at Mariahilferstrasse 49 in Vienna. After the Second World War, the business was passed on to a female colleague who continued production.
Kurt GOEBEL was born on June 25, 1906 in Meltich, near Troppau in the Czech Republic. He was educated at the military school in Enns, then in Traiskirchen, and later at the college in Troppau. He trained at the Vienna School of Dramatic Art, and was an actor for four years. He then turned to sculpture, training with the sculptor Gusti Mundt.
Kurt GOEBEL continued to work as a ceramist and freelance artist for many years. Until the 1950s, he designed figurines and wall masks, notably for Keramos-Vienna and the Viennese ceramics manufacturer Friedrich Goldscheider. He died in 1991.
