Jack ABEILLE (French, Saint-Maur-des-Fossés 1873 - 1939 Paris)

Jacques Abeillé, known as Jack Abeillé, was a French painter, poster designer, draughtsman, and illustrator. His contributions as a press illustrator are numerous, we find his signature in around thirty of the most important humorous magazines in France during the Belle Epoque. Jacques is the son of the painter Pierre Fernand ABEILLE. He made his debut as an illustrator at the age of 18 in the magazines “La Caricature” and “La Chronique humaine”. Three years later, in 1894, he replaced Paul BALLURIAU as artistic director of the magazine "Fin de Siècle" founded by financier François MAINGUY. In 1912, he was appointed to the editorship of a new magazine entitled “Élégances”. He also created posters for the theater, illustrations for books and even advertisements. After a successful career, Jack ABEILLE died on March 25, 1939 in Paris.
