LE MONNIER (French, around 1905 - 1964)
Le Monnier is a hat brand active around 1905 to 1964 and located after WW1 at 231, rue Saint Honoré (Place Vendôme) in Paris. It was created by Jeanne JACQUET, wife of LE MONNIER and sister of the men's tailor Louis JACQUET.
Jeanne Léontine JACQUET was born on January 2, 1887 in the 11th arrondissement of Paris from provincial parents employed in Paris. His father Sulpice JACQUET (1861-1911) was from Cher and his mother Eugénie RENAULD (1864-1928) was from the city of Lunéville. Brother of Jeanne, Louis was the apprentice of his uncle and godfather Louis JACQUET, men's tailor at 80, rue du Moulin Vert, while Jeanne was the apprentice of Marie BORNE, wife LE MONNIER, family friend and merchant in rue Saint Augustin in the very chic Opera district center of Paris. There she met Louis Emmanuel LE MONNIER (1881-1947), nephew of Marie BORNE and son of Victor LE MONNIER, notary clerk in Normandy. She married him on November 16, 1905. The couple moved in with Jeanne's parents, at 84 rue d'Alésia. The couple will have two boys Jacques (born in September 1906) and Jean (born in March 1915).
Jeanne began working as a milliner immediately after her marriage. After the WW1, the business became prosperous and even allowed the family to settle at 5 rue de Médicis facing the Luxembourg Gardens. After the Second World War, he was elevated to the rank of Knight of the Legion of Honor in March 1949.
Jeanne JACQUET - LE MONNIER died on March 29, 1964.
