Bedell Co. (American, 1900 – 1940?)
The Bedell Company was a national chain that exclusively sold women's high-end fashions, headquartered in New York City. In 1910-1920s Bedell City included seventeen Bedell Shops across the nation. The company also suggested to clients to order clothing (including hats, shoes, accessories etc.) through commercial trade catalogs.
In 1928 the main Bedell Department Store building was constructed on 19 West 34th Street – the company took over this former Revillon Building in 1918, adding to the growing number of department stores like B. Altman and Macy’s in the immediate area. Upper floors were leased to wholesale garment dealers like Rotary Frocks, Inc. With the beginning of WWII all buildings of the company were sold to another owners.
