Cedar Crest (American, 1905-c. 1960s)
Cedar Crest Original was an American millinery brand primarily known for women's high-fashion hats produced during the mid-20th century. The brand is associated with Larkin Owen (L.O.) DANIEL Sr. (1866-1927), a prominent Dallas businessman and first president of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, who built a substantial fortune in the wholesale millinery industry. Larkin Owen DANIEL owned the home on Jefferson street, known as Cedar Crest. He was the owner and President of Daniel Millinery, that was established in Dallas, Texas, in 1901, and the Vice President of Mercantile National Bank. The Cedar Crest home was built in 1905. As a milliner, DANIEL focused on the design and manufacture of hats, a profession distinct from a "hatter" who typically created more utilitarian headwear. Daniel Millinery Company was closed down following the death of its founder, Larkin Owen (L.O.) DANIEL, in 1927, but the "Cedar Crest" brand name lived on through vintage inventory and later mid-century production cycles that continued to use the established trademark.
