Maison's was a specialized retail shop in downtown Washington D.C. known for its high-quality women's accessories and apparel, including beaded hats from the 1940s and faux fur or mink pillbox hats from the 1950s and 1960s. Their label is also found on mid-century garments, such as the colorful tapestry-style fabric, which was a popular textile choice for jackets and skirts in the 1960s and 70s. The address of the boutique, 13th & G Sts., N.W., was part of the city's premier shopping district during the mid-20th century. At that time, this area was the heart of Washington's "downtown," home to major department stores like Woodward & Lothrop (located just a block away at 11th and G) and numerous independent boutiques like Maison's.
