Walter Gross (Swiss, founded c. 1967)

Walter Gross was a famous Swiss fashion label in the late 1960s-1980s. It was founded by Walter GROSS, a self-made Swiss couturier who began his career around the same time as Yves SAINT LAURENT, i.e. in the early 1960s. He was most famous for his flagship boutique on Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse, that was opened in 1967 at one of the world's most exclusive shopping streets, and a second location in the elite ski resort of St. Moritz. These boutiques were exclusive destinations for high fashion, and when they stocked pieces from major Paris houses, they often sew in their store label to signify that the item was curated and sold by them. During the late 20th century the Walter Gross boutique on Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse was one of the few places in Switzerland authorized to sell Givenchy's top-tier couture and boutique lines. Walter GROSS maintained his own independent label until his passing in 2005. After his death, his boutique was taken over by Gross Couture, which continues to sell luxury fashion in Zurich today.
