French fashion house founded in 1952 by Hubert de Givenchy (1927-2018), a French couturier. Initially, Givenchy was occupied merely in the haute couture segment. However, Givenchy became the first brand to launch its luxury prêt-à-porter line. In the 1970s, the brand expanded significantly. Hubert de Givenchy, famous for creating clothes for movies featuring Audrey Hepburn (for example, Breakfast at Tiffany's), remained at the head of his house until 1995. Hubert de Givenchy retired in 1995, and he was succeeded by John Galliano. John Galliano, however, moved to Dior quickly, freeing his position to Alexander McQueen, who worked for Givenchy from 1996 to 2001. Julien MacDonald became the new artistic director at Givenchy and worked here until 2005, when she was succeeded by Riccardo Tisci. Riccardo Tisci was in charge of Givenchy collections for 12 years, in 2017 Clare Waight Keller took the position of the brand's collections.
