Maison Roger Vivier (French, Paris, 1937-1998, 2000- )

1937 Roger Vivier founds his namesake brand with the opening of a boutique at 22 rue Royale in Paris. He starts designing footwear for the greatest fashion houses in the world. 1963 Vivier opens his fashion house on rue François 1er in Paris. In the meanwhile, he continues working for other Maisons such as Balmain, Patou, Nina Ricci, Yves Saint Laurent. When Viiver died in 1998, he did not leave a successor, so the Italian luxury goods giant Diego della Valle of Tod’s fame bought the name in 2000 and in 2004 relaunched it under Bruno Frisoni, who helped restore its former glory, designing shoes that were objets d’art, including launching a collection of couture designs that reached into the six figures, and expanding the brand into a full range of accessories sold at stores worldwide. In 2018 Gherardo Felloni was appointed Creative Director of Maison Roger Vivier.
