Description
Pair of Turkish babouche in dark leather embellished with golden thread embroidery on the front with a motif of three stylized flowers.

The babouche is a leather mule, traditional in the Arab-Muslim world. Babouche, from Persian (papush), composed of "pa" (foot) and "push" (cover), simply refers to shoe. It appears in the 3rd century AD and was worn by women who had to hide the tips of their feet. It will also be adopted by men further in time.

The manufacture of such kind of slippers is quite delicate. In general, the upper part of the slipper is made of grained goatskin and the sole is made of calfskin. It is also preferable to use leather for the inside of the slipper.
