Description
Ivory colour rectangular Solemn Communion cotton bag covered with Luxeuil lace and closing on the top with two silk ribbons on the sides. Luxeuil lace is needle lace, which is characterized by laces sewn by needle points on paper. This lace is similar to the tradition of lace from Milan and Venice, and looks a lot like Bruges lace.

Luxeuil lace appeared around 1850, in the spa town of Luxeuil, and in its close neighbor, the town of Plombières-les-Bains, where Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie came for thermal cures. The imperial couple brought in their wake a whole clientele in love with luxury. They will be the craftsmen of the fame of Luxeuil lace. A lace parasol given to the Empress and an embroidered dress for the Queen of Spain started the lace craze. The heyday of Luxeuil lace lasted until the war of 1914.
