Description
Large unusual triangle shaped women's belt buckle on brass base with pinchbeck ornamentation representing a foliage openwork ornament embellished with five purple flowers on the sides made of round amethyst stones.

A similar but more rectangular type of belt buckles was typical of 1830s and was worn with leg of mutton (gigot) sleeved dresses. Such triangle shaped buckle could appear at the end of 1830s - beginning 1840s when the bottom part of the bodice becomes much more pointed to the skirt.
