Description
Egyptian Revival large openwork steel belt buckle, embellished in the center with a turquoise carved scarab with cloisonné enameled hardstone wings. On the sides, tear shaped drops of turquoise inside vegetal palm shaped metal forms, surrounded with geometric frame with dotted motif.In the early 20th century Egypt was of great interest in the West starting with the Ballets Russes "Cleopatre" ballet of 1909, and continued with the discovery of Tutankhamun tomb in 1922. This brought about the Egyptian Revival period where design in jewellery, fashion and furniture was inspired by Egypt.
