Description
Pair of chamois velvet shoes, with red leather sole, embroidered with metallic thread and sequins. The inside is in printed with floral motifs cotton. The toes of the shoes are pointy and rise upwards.

This piece testifies to the industrial modernisation of the Ottoman Empire in the second half of the 19th century, and to the orientalist fashion which was fond of this kind of product in Europe.
