Description
Original drawing in gouache on embossed paper, representing a woman, the temple dancer or the temple maiden, wearing an oriental dancing costume consisting of a purple bra with golden inserts and red and purple feathers on the shoulders, matching harem pants, open cut on the front, and a feather belt with a matching headdress.
The costume was created for the bayadère Nikiya caracter, in the ballet "La Bayadère" ("the temple dancer") («Баядерка», Bayaderka), performed in The Mikhailovsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, originally staged in four acts and seven tableaux by French choreographer Marius PETIPA to the music of Ludwig MINKUS.
