Description
Ivory brisé fan consisting of 27 sticks with Martin's varnish painted design. On the main side: a central vignette with two ladies in a garden landscape, one sitting in a lilac dress with white fichu and white bonnet hat, and the other standing with turned back in a pink gown with dark green shawl. On the sides, two trapeze shaped medallions with landscapes of peasant architecture. The whole on the brown background with black dotted motif with straight and wavy lines, and golden colour Neoclassical framing in the early French Directory style, transitional between Louis XVI and Empire. The fan is held at the top with a black silk ribbon painted with gold ornaments. The reverse side has a painted landscape, showing a tree on the front, with a farm building or a village on the background, surrounded with forests and hills. The bottom of the handle is embellished with a green stone from each side.
