Description
Pair of hand screens with wooden handle and decagonal cardboard base. The edges of both screens are formed by Roman garlands in high relief, framing a green plate. A printed engraving framed by a golden and flowery border is glued on top. On the first screen, it represents the view from the bank of a river. It depicts onlookers, a horseman, a sailboat, and a hilly and built-up opposite bank. On the reverse, an engraving called "Morale" entitled "The donkey carrying relics'' with en illustration. It is the fourteenth fable of the book V of Jean de La Fontaine. On the second screen, the front engraving represents a lake in the middle of a park. It is surrounded by quays and Gothic revival buildings. A shoal of ducks frolics in the middle while onlookers paddle around. On the reverse, a missing insert with one of the fables of Jean de La Fontaine was stuck on.
