Description
Ethnic necklace forming an elephant's head hanging from a metal chain with gold and worked links. The head is elongated with ears, eyes and tusks in gold and striated metal. The back of it is in gilded openwork. Its trunk is rolled up.
Donation from the ERDOTEX group, European leader in the revaluation of used textiles, as a part of a partnership in the selection by Alexandre Vassiliev Foundation of the most emblematic pieces, in order to illustrate the history of fashion and to look at these pieces from the angle of Art work.
The hippie craze of the 1970s took hold of Asian cultures and traditions, especially along the famous Hippie Trail. The ways of thinking, religious philosophies and eating habits of many countries in the region were adopted by a growing part of the Western population. In the 1980s, with the democratisation of aviation and the gradual opening of borders, mass tourism began to develop in South East Asia. An important production of craftmanship was developed for the tourism market.
