Description
Pastel drawing portrait of a young woman represented in a wedding gown on a pale grey background. She has a raised hairdo on which is placed a crown of blue flowers and feathers. A black ribbon choker underlines the neckline formed by her blue dress which covers her shoulders with navy taffeta and a short lace brim on the collar. A grove of flowers dots her chest under a ribbon.

The pastel portrait gained popularity in France in the 18th century. Although great masters such as Quentin de la TOUR became famous in the discipline, a large number of artists tried their hand at pastel portraiture. It allowed for vivid colours that were more resistant to light and time.
