Description
Pastel drawing portrait of a child, almost a young woman, represented in a simple navy blue dress with high Empire waistline, and short white sleeves with zigzag embroidered trimming. He hair is short with a flat bun on the top in "à la victime" style. The young lady is known as Marie Etiennette MARTIN, born on Juin 11, 1793, daughter of Joseph Elzéar PERRIN (1768 - 1794) - victim of the People's Commission of Orange.He was a deacon when the French Revolution closed the convents and forced him to return to his family. Refusing to receive the priesthood from the hands of an intruding bishop, he was, for this reason, handed over to the proconsul MAIGNET, who dragged him before the People's Commission. He strenuously refused to take the oath of Liberty Equality, and was condemned as a rebel against the law and a counter-revolutionary. Mr. PERRIN took part in the federalist events which agitated the town of Apt, and to flee persecution, he enlisted in October 1793 in the 99th brigade of the army of Italy.
The surveillance committee of Apt issued an arrest warrant against him, had him brought to the prisons of Avignon on April 30, 1794, for having read in the sections part of a speech tending to incite the people to rebellion. Taken to Orange in the prisons of the Circus in the month of June, the public prosecutor had him sentenced to death as a federalist. He was guillotined on July 7, 1794.
