Description
Pastel drawing protrait of a young woman represented in a white dress with a round neck and trimmed with a muslin ruffle and belted under the chest with a ribbon ending with a coral beads buckle mounted on brass. She wears her hair in a bun with curls on each side of the face and embellished with a brass tiara ending with fine coral beads matching the belt and her earrings, all in the first empire style.

The young girl is know as Marie-Clotilde HUBERT represented at the age of 13 years, 10 months and 23 days. She was born in Orléans on January 10, 1805, her father Augustin HUBERT (1776-1851) was a refiner and trader and her mother, Françoise Félicité PELLETIER (1776-1858) descended from a tanners family. She marries on March 23, 1824, François Joseph Constant MOUVET (1800-1854), who will become a white lead manufacturer, in association with Mr Mathieu. The company "Mouvet et Mathieu" established in Saint-Pryvé near Orléans will be very prosperous during the middle of the 19th century.
