Description
Rectangular shaped compact powder case with mirror on a hinged brass metal base with embossed Florentine leather decoration on the front in black color with gold and white stamped print, and embossed stylized floral motifs on the back. The compact has its used sifter for use with loose powder, but can also hold pressed powder trays.
Such type of objects was usually produced in the 1950s by Leather School of Florence. The Leather School was established after World War II as a cooperative venture between a Franciscan monastery and two leading Florentine families. It originally employed war orphans and trained them in leatherwork.
