Description
Miniature portrait is depicting a young lady kwon as Sophie ARNOULD. She is wearing a pale blue sack-back gown matching with a hat topped with pale blue feathers. Her white lace sleeves reminds her pale skin and her wide wig. She is sitting on an green armchair facing a harpsichord and plays the score placed on it.

Sophie ARNOULD (1740-1802) is a french actress and singer. She started her career in 1757 and having a short career (1778), but acquired great celebrity. The writer Albéric DEVILLE wrote in 1813, a postmortem collection entitled "Arnoldiana, or Sophie Arnould and her Contemporaries", widely used by the Goncourt Brothers which helped to maintain its popularity. She has been represented in several time. There are three known miniatures with the same posture. This one and a copy by Adolphe HALL from an original of the work of DUMONT around 1788.
