Description
Aluminum ring called "Trench art" decorated with a passion flower leaf ending on both sides with openwork. The passionflower takes its name from the Jesuits who saw all the elements of the crucifixion of Christ in the flower: the crown of thorn, the 3 nails, the whip, the hammer. At the same time, the specific 5-blade leaf symbolizes the 5 wounds.
Trench art is any decorative item made by soldiers, prisoners of war, or civilians. They are most often made when waiting in the trenches to fill the time. The object is often related to their respective profession before the conflict. Here it is probably a jeweler. It was the object to pass the time but also not to lose the know-how. It offers an insight not only to their feelings and emotions about the war, but also their surroundings and the materials they had available to them.
