Description
Painting portrait representing Louise Gabrielle Julie de ROHAN, Princess of Guéméné (1704 - 1780) in a golden dress with Venetian handmade needle-stitched lace details, holding a blue drape and a flower in her hair. We can see the shadow of a tree on the right background.

Daughter of the Duke of ROHAN-ROHAN and his wife Anne-Geneviève de LEVIS, she is a part of the illustrious Maison de Rohan. Engaged to her cousin Hercule-Mériadec, Prince of Guéméné, son and heir of Charles III, Prince of Guéméné, she becomes, after her marriage (celebrated on August 4, 1718) Princess of Guéméné.
The portrait is inspired by the famous series of portraits "Mesdames de France" by Jean-Marc NATTIER. This series, commissioned by the King Louis XV in 1750 and completed a year later, depicts the 4 daughters of the King as the four elements. NATTIER had already painted a portrait of the Princess of Guéméné around 1737, now kept at the Palace of Versailles.
