Calash hat in brown silk taffeta, lined with a beige linen cloth. It is reinforced by fourteen vegetal canes and at the bottom, by a caning. It is embellished with a large flounce at the bottom. A brand label is stuck on the caning. It could be tied by tying two silk ribbons together. In the middle is another linen ribbon, the ends of which are sewn on each side. This calash dates from the 1770s, but was modified in the 1830s by Mrs. M. D. Chapin.Materials
