P-shaped bow brooch with returned foot.The fibula (from the Latin fibula meaning "fastener") is a pin, usually made of metal, which serves to fix the ends of a garment. It is generally considered the ancestor of the safety pin. The first fibulae appear at the end of the Bronze Age.
