Oil on canvas depicting a portrait of Alpine woman in a blue bodice set in a mountain scene. The subject is depicted wearing a blue button-up bodice over a white blouse with a ruffled button placket and collar. Around the woman's neck is a black choker with a black stone pendant in a gold fitting. The woman wears her hair in a bun with a pink flower.

The date and signature painted in red in the lower left corner of the painting indicate that the work was completed by the painter's wife shortly after his death. It is believed to depict their daughter, Marie Joséphine Charnal, at the age of 29. She was an embroiderer. Born on July 6, 1843, she died unmarried at the age of 73 on December 11, 1916, in the 13th arrondissement of Paris.
