Portrait of an unknown gentleman, who is depicted in a brown dress coat with a yellow waistcoat and white shirt with high stand-up collar, secured with navy silk cravate. He is holding a book in his right hand, and has a gold chain with a key attached to his waistband – that is a common motif in historical portraiture, indicating that the person depicted was a literary figure or held a position in government service. He worn a Regency hairstyle and long sideburns.Materials
