Description

A pair of summer bathing slippers constructed from beige cotton canvas with red textile binding along the edges. The simple, lightweight upper is shaped to the foot, with small eyelets at the toe likely intended for lacing to secure the slipper more firmly. The soles are composed of shaped metal plates, fixed to the textile base. Each sole consists of a forepart and a heel section, both perforated with regularly arranged circular openings to reduce weight and allow drainage of water and sand. The plates are secured with evenly spaced rivets along the perimeter. The footwear was likely intended for use in seaside settings or during bathing activities.
The pair of slippers originates from the château in Anché (Indre-et-Loire) and is traditionally attributed to Yolande Jeanne Marie de PRIN, wife of Baron Fernand Edmond Joseph DE JOUSSINEAU DE TOURDONNET
