Description
A stage costume bodice for a woman, designed from two historical garments in the style of the early twentieth century. The main structure is composed of black satin from an early twentieth-century piece, while the central panel features asymmetrical purple and gold brocade repurposed from a nineteenth-century garment. The bodice is designed with a wide collared lapel and a V-shaped neckline formed by the purple front panel. Its long sleeves are gathered at the shoulders and finished with flounced cuffs at the wrists. Apart from the satin waistband, there is a separate satin belt that can be secured around the wearer and fastened at the back. The back of the bodice is plain with a metal snap to secure the belt. The interior includes a central panel of black cotton fitted with clasps for closure. It is fully lined, with plain silk throughout the body and striped silk lining the sleeves.
