Description
Portrait of a young lady, known as Miss DARCY, seated in a red upholstered armchair, set against a neutral beige interior or studio background. The girl is shown in a composed seated pose, her body turned slightly to the left while her face is directed toward the viewer. One arm rests on the arm of the chair, while the other hand is placed lightly near the opposite side. Her expression is calm and restrained, with bright blue eyes, softly blushed cheeks, and a delicate, attentive gaze. Her red hair is parted at the centre and arranged in long, regular ringlets that fall symmetrically on either side of the face to the neckline. The carefully ordered curls frame the face and soften the oval of the features.
She wears a white silk dress with a fitted bodice and a broad off-the-shoulder bertha collar made of transparent white fabric. The collar falls over the shoulders and upper arms and is decorated with delicate floral embroidery, creating a light ornamental layer above the smooth white bodice. The waist is emphasized by a wide white belt embroidered with red vegetal motifs and fastened at the centre with a rectangular gold buckle. Below the belt, the skirt descends in full, soft folds over the seated figure, suggesting a light but structured silk textile.
