Description
Stage costume sketch titled The Calligraph depicting a male character wearing a long, straight robe with a loose, straight, floor-length silhouette. The figure has a bald head decorated with small, light-coloured raised bumps. His broad, square jaw is framed by a white, square-shaped beard composed of tightly curled hair that curls upward at the front and backward along the sides. His yellowish complexion contrasts with his other facial features, including almond-shaped eyes accentuated with black eyeliner, a prominent nose, and rosy lips. He is dressed in a long robe, while his wrists are finished with black cuffs.
The costume is constructed from patchted squared pieces of fabric. The upper portion of the robe is framed by a structured “W” collar in muted blue and brown tones that sits high on the shoulders.
The garment is constructed from large geometric panels arranged in a vertical composition, combining shades of white, gray, black, muted blue, and yellow. A series of chevron shaped sections descend through the center of the robe, accompanied by brown downward facing triangular accents emphasizing its elongated form. In continuity, the front of the robe is decorated with repeating black calligraphic motifs placed within white panels, finished with black cuffs at the wrists contrasting sharply against the darker geometric blocks surrounding them.
