Fan

Wooden fan ornamented in copper, blue ribbon and colorful paintings. The fan consists of twenty-four wooden blades that are attached to one another by green ribbon. The two blades on the end of the fan are decorated with two darker circles of wood that are connected by a multicolored wooden line design. The base of the fan meets at a copper handle held together by a pin that connects through all twenty-four blades. 

The artwork refers to a theme of love triangle and unrequited love. The woman on the painted surface is wearing a pink dress while being arm-in-arm with a man. On the right is a man holding a pink umbrella; glancing at the couple slyly. The reverse of the fan bears a painted composition of blue and pink flowers surrounded by green foliage. This floral arrangement may be interpreted as a symbolic counterpart to the couple depicted on the obverse, serving as a visual metaphor for their affection and union.
