Description
Folding fan featuring a double sided painted paper leaf mounted on an elaborately carved bone and ivory structure. The front of the leaf is detailed with three distinct oval medallions containing hand painted pastoral scenes in the Rococo revival style, surrounded by intricate vertical stripes, floral garlands, and gold leaf highlights. The reverse side presents a simpler composition with three rustic landscape vignettes framed by delicate vine motifs and scattered pink blossoms on a cream ground. Supporting the leaf is a set of masterfully pierced and engraved sticks, decorated with silver and gold foiled accents that form fluid scrollwork patterns. The robust guard sticks are sculpted with dimensional reliefs of floral bundles and architectural columns, capped at the pivot with a clear gemstone accent set in a metallic rivet.Materials
